Alex Pall Talks About The Chainsmokers’ Journey

The Chainsmokers became an important name in the music industry after the release of their breakthrough single #Selfie in 2014. The song ended up being a top 20 single in a number of countries and attracted attention to the group. The duo consists of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall and, according to Taggart, they blur the lines between dance music, indie, pop music, and hip-hop. They cited acts like deadmau5 and Linkin Park as influences, and bands like Explosions in the Sky and Blink-182 when it comes to acts that inspired their songs.

As he was growing up, Alex Pall was DJing around New York City, trying to make a name for himself, but he considered it more just a side work and a hobby that he was passionate about, rather than a job. Once he decided to give his career a proper shot, his manager introduced him to Andrew Taggart, who he was also managing. The two started working immediately after meeting each other.

The two worked on shaping their sound after understanding what they both liked musically and how driven and ambitious they were. They worked every day on creating their identity as artists, but despite their 9 AM to 7 PM schedule, they did not want to treat it like a job. Pall notes that they continue push themselves hard in order to become better artists, and despite stating that it is their job and that it pays their bills, he also considers it much more than that. Pall mentions that people relate to The Chainsmokers’ music on a deeper level, and they want that to be the case more and more.

Pall considers their career to be a constant journey of self-discovery, as the act became much bigger what people could have imagined, and in order to stay engaged and interesting they have to keep trying new things. When talking about their live shows, Alex Pall notes that the performance element of their show is only getting bigger, and they plan on taking the production further as well, and the fact that they perform their songs live transcends the typical DJ.

The Chainsmokers New Music Will Have You Addicted

The popular electronic duo known as The Chainsmokers have finally released a new song, the first in nine months. This nine month hiatus is an especially long time for the group, seeing as they were releasing a new song almost every month in their first year of major mainstream popularity. Ever since their formation in 2012 Drew Taggart and Alex Pall have been regularly writing and producing music, and have been performing regularly since 2013. “Sick Boy” is the newest release by this dynamic duo and it has a surprisingly new and intriguingly dark sound.

The new sound being introduced by Drew and Alex is the beginning of an era. Since the group is all about making music that mirrors current events and emotions, it is fitting that their new sound is a bit darker. Drew confirmed this in an interview saying, “The next topic is a little bit darker, but I think that’s the tone of society right now. Our stuff is always a reflection of what’s going on in our lives and the world around us.” People all over the world have felt a change in tone over the past year, and The Chainsmokers want to express these new emotions through their music.

After the groups intensely quick rise to the top over the past years, the two men have felt extreme pressure in regards to the media’s constant watch and the many expectations that derive from public perception. This lead them to reflect on the scrutiny that all people, especially the young, have to deal with on a daily basis. The idea that everything we do is on a platform for all to see ultimately lead to the birthing of their new and darker direction. The Chainsmokers want to shed new light on the stresses we all have to deal with, but to also relate to their fans and listeners on a deeper level in spite of that stress.
